Hi Nigel. This is obviously not a well used site which is a shame. I work for LOOK which is an organisation for parents of visually impaired children. Although visually impaired parents are not actually in our remit we have had a number of calls from VI parents with sighted children who are looking for support. I am looking for any organisations which might be of use and I wondered whether you a) might know of any and b)whether you would be interested in having your details put on a data base in our office to pass on to other parents. I'd love to hear from you. Cheers. jane. |

Being new to the forum I was interested in Nigel#s posting. I am a visually impaired parent of vision impaired and fully sighted children. I am involved in a number or groups and organisations. I am a member of VIPAR (vision Impaired Parents). We use hsbp (Hesnshaws) as our base. We are an informal group of parents who meet socially, share experiences and provide mutual supprt. Zjenett is a VIPAR memver who goes every other Wednesday into hsbp,Manchester Tel. 0161 872 1234. Alternatively people may contact me by email or through DPN I have been involve in a recent SCIE Knowledge Review on Support for Disabled Parents and also a DDPPI prohect to produce parenting booklets for vision impaired parents. I am also involved in Dsabled Awareness training of children and adults and always make regerence to disabled parents needs. It is proving very successful in our authority with leading people interested. I am happy for anyone to contact me for more information through DPN We are familiar with LOOK and have recieved their information as well as enjoying a family weekend with them in Blackpool. I |

Graham That's fine. I can be reached through DPN so any time. I have been one experience i was involved in was that having advised a vision impaired parent to ask for a seond copy of the child#s reading book which would have solved her problem they couldn't even manae that. i linked with the Education Sensory Support Service for vision impaired children and their attitude was brilliant, they saw the need to support the family as a whole and provided a whole set of ORT, which the family are now using for the second child and will return when appropriate. The service even contacted me to ask if the family needed anything else that they could help with. We are still trying with diffulty to work with this school as other difficulties arise but they seem unable to take it on board. So get in touch when its convenient |
