i went into a pain rehab unit-where i met a woman who had her leg amputated. the thing is i didnt stare in horror so much as in the fight the woman had got through to be. not everyone stares cos of the amputation,i was admiring the stamina this woman had to get on with her life-even tho she was in her late fifties. i have a back problem where my legs are useless and now my right arm and side stiffen up to hardly use. but i am grateful that i am moveable alot more than some. i hope you have a supporting hubby! good luck |

Hi, I'm Sue, I have two teenagers (14 & 18) and I've been a bilateral (AK & BK) amputee since I was a baby. I've done all the 'chasing after toddlers' and I've had the socket problems during and after pregnancy. I decided to have my family relatively early as I knew my legs wouldn't be able to cope if I left it...and I'm SO glad I did! Both my kids are lovely and it's the best thing I ever did! :-) Just in case you want to contact me - twoteaflutetea@hotmail.co.uk |

Although not an amputee I have only one functional arm after a stroke and I have to use that arm to hold my stick when I am walking. I am 30 and just 12 weeks pregnant. I would love to make contact with anyone who might be able to pass on information about how to cope with a little one and what equipment they have come across. Do contact me at lauramargetts@hotmail.com |

Hi I have limited use of my right side. I have a 6 week old baby boy and really struggled in the first few weeks but here is my solution to feeding him. I am bottle feeding as I couldn't attach the baby alone, but I feed him on a bean bag that you can get from Mothercare (or ebay its cheaper). Also go to mothercare and try out the one-handed folding pushchairs. My local store was very helpful and let me try out ones until I found a suitable one. To carry him short distances I use an Infantino sling. I also use it to carry him to the car, place him and the sling on the front seat, pick him up out of the sling right arm under his bottom and left under his head and place him in the car seat in the back, and vice versa to take him out again. I hope this helps Mx |
